The Director of the Institute of Criminology at the Faculty of Law in Ljubljana, Prof. Dr. Aleš Završnik, and researcher Prof. Dr. Renata Salecl attended the 80th Conference of the American Society of Criminology (ASC), Washington, D.C., from 12 to 15 November 2025. This year’s conference was held under the title “Criminology, Law and the Democratic Ideal.”
Prof. Dr. Renata Salecl presented a paper entitled “Aggression, Self-Destruction and Sublimation in Times of Catastrophes”, in which she discussed psychological and social responses to contemporary global crises. Prof. Dr. Aleš Završnik, with his paper “Digital Violence Against Women: Legislative and Discursive Changes.” highlighted the rapidly changing nature of digital violence and the challenges facing legislative frameworks in Europe. He warned that existing legislation often does not keep up with technological changes and does not cover all forms of harmful conduct in the digital environment.
As the Institute, we are very proud to be able to present our work and expertise in an international environment, thus contributing to the understanding of contemporary challenges in criminology.
