On 25 May, our researcher prof. dr. Renata Salecl was the honorary speaker at the Plečnik Awards ceremony, the most prominent and prestigious event in the field of architecture in Slovenia. In her address, she highlighted the social responsibility of architecture and warned against the dangers of subordinating urban space to the interests of capital.
She stressed that architecture must not become merely an extension of economic interests that transform cities into spaces of glass facades, private security, surveillance cameras, and controlled accessibility. According to her, such processes create cities increasingly efficient at exclusion and control, instead of fostering an open community.
