Today, the National Criminology Conference 2025 took place in the library of the Institute of Criminology at the Faculty of Law in Ljubljana, successfully bringing together academics, researchers, lawyers, prosecutors and students.

Through thematically diverse lectures, participants discussed contemporary challenges in penal policy, the connections between art, space and crime, the impact of migration and prison conditions on individuals, and the current dilemmas raised by war and genocide.

The conference was opened with an introductory speech by Prof. Dr. Aleš Završnik, Director of the Institute of Criminology, who emphasized the importance of an open, interdisciplinary discussion on criminal law and social issues facing modern society.

We look forward to seeing you at the next Conference!

The morning session was followed by lectures on stalking, art and crime, labor migration, peer violence, as well as the evolution of penal policy and prison climate. The afternoon session of the conference was also extremely rich and diverse – in the final discussions, the participants delved into the issues of punishment in relation to the perpetrator’s motives, the emergence of ultra-violence, the psychology of evil and the relevance of genocide in today’s world.

At the Institute of Criminology, we sincerely thank all participants for their valuable contribution and cooperation and look forward to meeting again at the next National Criminology Conference.
