On Thursday, 23 October 2025, an extended meeting of the Director General of the Prison Administration took place at the Ministry of Justice. The meeting was attended by the directors of the Correctional Institutions, heads of branch units, and members of the extended collegium from the General Office.

At the meeting, researchers from the Institute of Criminology at the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana — Dr. Mojca M. Plesničar and Dr. Dean Lipovac — presented the results of a project validating a screening tool for assessing the risk of reoffending, developed in cooperation with the Council of Europe.

The tool is designed as the first step in a two-tier system for assessing risks and needs, enabling early identification of individuals at higher risk of re-incarceration or committing serious offenses.

The project makes a significant contribution to the development of state-of-the-art rehabilitation approaches with an emphasis on safety and professional orientation of the prison system.

Its use contributes to more effective risk management, the planning of rehabilitation programs, and a fairer and safer treatment of incarcerated persons. The project represents the first empirical validation of such a tool in Slovenia and makes an important contribution to the development of modern, evidence-based rehabilitation approaches, emphasizing fairness, safety, and professional orientation within the prison system.
