The international interim workshop on sentencing and sexual violence was held at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, on 16–17 July 2026. The event was organised by the Violence and Society Working Group 11 in collaboration with the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, the Institute of Criminology at the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana, and the National Institute of Public Health of Slovenia.
Researchers from the Institute of Criminology at the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana also presented the findings of their research. Dr Eva Bertok presented a study on stalking as a form of domestic violence in Slovenia, examining legal definitions of stalking, institutional responses, and victims’ experiences. Dr Dean Lipovac and Dr Mojca Plesničar presented research on domestic violence among individuals under probation supervision in Slovenia, based on administrative data from the Slovenian Probation Administration, exploring the relationship between social and psychological factors and probation supervision. They also presented a study on the institutional framing of sexual violence in Slovenia, which drew on quantitative and qualitative analyses of court decisions to examine how institutional factors shape the handling and sentencing of sexual violence cases. The workshop was also attended by Dr Nežka Sajinčič, researcher Lovrena Jeromlej, and junior researcher Helena Smrekar.
The workshop continued discussions initiated at the 2025 ISA Forum in Rabat, providing an opportunity to further strengthen collaboration and deepen scholarly exchange on sociological approaches to violence. Participants discussed different forms of violence and reflected on the social processes shaping the production, regulation, and lived experience of violence across diverse social and cultural contexts.
