The Infrastructure Programme for the domain of criminality, crime and penal policy of the Institute of Criminology

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The Infrastructure Programme for the domain of Criminality, Crime and Penal Policy supports the research work of the Institute’s research programme group, as well as other research activities carried out at the Institute and teaching activities in the fields of criminology and criminal law. Furthermore, it supports legal and criminal policy decision-making in the fight against crime and the provision of security in Slovenia, and more broadly in the Western Balkans.

The research infrastructure is based on three complementary pillars:

  1. the data hub,
  2. the specialised criminological library, and
  3. publishing activities.

The Data Hub of the IK represents a component of research infrastructure that complements traditional research equipment. It is an online analytical platform aimed at the systematic collection, processing, structuring, and public presentation of selected data in the field of criminology. A particular strength of the platform lies in its interactive visualisation, which enables users to explore the data directly and facilitates easier understanding in both Slovenian and English.

The Library collects, processes, and lends materials in the fields of criminology and criminal justice sciences. Its collection includes monographs, conference proceedings, materials from symposia and congresses, official publications, research reports, criminal and other legislation, dictionaries, lexicons and encyclopedias, official publications, grey literature, and serial publications. The materials cover criminology, crime, social pathology, deviant behaviour, substantive and procedural criminal law, international and European law, the operation of criminal justice bodies, criminal policy, crime prevention, penology, criminal investigation, victimology, juvenile delinquency and the juvenile justice system, forensic sciences, and other disciplines related to criminology.

Publishing activity is an important component of research infrastructure, as it enables the effective dissemination of research results and contributes to their visibility in both the scientific and broader social contexts.
