Building on the discussions initiated at last year’s meeting in Malmö, this year’s conference focused on abolitionist practice and the search for alternatives to existing punitive and repressive structures. Participants discussed ways of moving beyond institutions and systems based on surveillance, punishment and exclusion, as well as alternatives to policing, prisons, migrant detention centres, mass surveillance systems and other forms of repressive social control.
The conference was organised by a collective of activists and academics from Euskal Herria (the Basque Country), with the involvement of several organisations, including Salhaketa Nafarroa, Salhaketa Araba, the University of the Basque Country, and the European Group working group Fear and Looting in the Periphery.
