Three representatives from the Institute of Criminology – Saša Krajnc, Katja Piršič and Tina Anžič – participated in the kick-off meeting of the Horizon Europe project AI4Deliberation on November 13-14, 2024. The meeting was hosted by the coordinating institution Uni Systems, Greece.
The aim of the AI4Deliberation is to address key challenges in modern democracies, such as declining trust in institutions, political polarization, and the spread of disinformation. Using artificial intelligence, the project aims to develop ethical tools for more active and inclusive citizen participation in decision-making on important issues.
The Institute of Criminology’s primary role in the project is to ensure ethical oversight and compliance. This includes guiding the consortium in adhering to ethical principles and relevant national and EU legislation. Our responsibilities encompass areas such as the ethical recruitment of adult research participants, the protection of personal data, and the responsible development and deployment of AI technologies. Head of the project is Prof. Aleš Završnik.
AI4Deliberation is a three-year project bringing together 12 partner institutions from 8 countries: Greece, the Netherlands, Ireland, Germany, the United Kingdom, Slovenia, Italy, and Switzerland.
