As part of the SOS4Democracy project, an international conference titled Resilience, Resistance, Renewal: Rethinking Democratic Politics in Times of War and Emergency will take place from 24 to 26 June 2026 at Boğaziçi University in Istanbul.

The conference starts from the premise that democratic politics is currently facing one of its deepest crises in decades. This crisis is deeply intertwined with overlapping global emergencies: the genocide in Gaza, the war in Ukraine, the climate crisis, growing inequalities within global capitalism, and an escalating landscape of geopolitical rivalry, militarization, and the deterioration of international law. Law itself plays an ambivalent role in these transformations—serving both as a tool for legitimizing autocratization through emergency decrees and constitutional changes, and as a crucial site of contestation and resistance in the struggle for fundamental rights, justice, and peace.
